The second model of Ford Festiva was jointly developed by Kia and Ford, retaining most of the transmission of the previous model with a more rounded body. This new Festiva was a little longer, wider, more streamlined, and MacPherson strut suspension for the front axle and a torsion bar in the rear. Although sold in some markets as a second generation Festiva, Ford renamed it the “Aspire” in North American markets, where he was offered the five-door model first. In South Korea, the car was marked as “Kia Avella.” The sedan version was mainly limited to South Korean market, although it was available with the Festiva badging on Taiwan.
Depending on the market, some retained the SOHC engine throttle-body injection, while others received an engine cylinder DOHC MPI also designed by Mazda. These engines were:
EGi B3: 1.3 liter (1323 cc) fuel injected 8-valve I4 making 73 hp (DIN) (54 kW) at 5000 rpm and 99 ft · lbf (135 Nm) of torque at 3000 rpm
EGi B5: 1.5 liter (1,498 cc) fuel injected 8-valve I4 making 88.4 hp (DIN) (65 kW) at 5000 rpm and 99 ft · lbf (135 Nm) of torque at 4000 rpm (Asia and Oceania only)
Transmission choices made by a five-speed manual transmission, while all models can be an optional four-speed automatic. Australia and United States models are equipped with a three-speed automatic transmission
