Is not radically reinvented, but the last Ford Edge is a substantial, sturdy five-seat crossover with attractive features – features like real interior space for adults, the system of tech-savvy MyFord, even the ceiling, just attractive View pane.
On the other side was very cool new for 2011, and this year has a new addition to the line in the form of an EcoBoost engine, a turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a power comparable to the base V-6, with an index of gas mileage of 30 mpg highway. The standard six-cylinder is still available in 285 hp form, and returns Edge Sport, with its 305 horsepower six and sport tune. All versions have a firm but not busy ride, handling relatively fast, and predictable car type ride height that makes them excellent choices for family travelers and carpoolistas, including the Edge Sport, with its huge tires of 22 inches.
On the other side has not earned the best safety ratings from NHTSA, but the IIHS called a Top Safety Pick. With standard curtain airbags and anti-lock control, the advantage can be updated with blind spot monitors, parking sensors and a rearview camera, but lacks the latest options for features as inflatable safety belts back is in the seven-seat Explorer 2012.
All edges have a USB port for music players, a capless fuel tank, and MyKey, that lets parents set speed limits and the volume of younger drivers. Then there’s MyTouch, which uses Bluetooth and touch screen to take the place of the dozens of buttons and switches, which makes the script clean and tidy, while relying on the voice or steering-wheel button commands to drive secondary functions, such as navigation and climate control.
With a cool and very hot in 2011, the main selling points of the edge are elegant and spacious interior, advanced technology on board, and now, the promise of fuel economy of 30 mpg. If you are looking for a true sporting advantage, you will probably have to pay more for a German SUV with less interior space, however.
